AGUNSA, port agent of scientific vessel that studies seismic movements

The function of this vessel from the United States, R/V Marcus Langseth, of the National Science Foundation, is to carry out scientific research. It is operated by the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) Institute, from the University of Columbia, a leader in marine seismic studies.

The main purpose of her visit to Chile is to gather data regarding seismic movements around the world.

The vessel came into Chilean waters in October last year to start sounding studies in the Chilean seabed, specifically in the internal structure of the Nazca and South American plates between the cities of Iquique-Antofagasta and Coquimbo-Chiloé. The objective is to draw a map to study the occurrences of earthquakes and tsunamis to analyze which points have a higher likelihood of sustaining seismic movements by measuring the roughness of said plates.

AGUNSA has participated in this mission as port and logistics agents when the vessel called at Valparaiso and Arica, covering the needs of refueling, bunkering and official formal activities with local and national authorities.

As port agent, AGUNSA provides services for shipping companies to act on their behalf in the ports where they are represented, planning and coordinating all procedures before calling at port, control measures and optimization of costs during her stay, constant reports and monitoring of operations of container vessels, dry and liquid bulk vessels, scientific vessels, cruiseships, vehicle carriers, project cargo, fishing vessels and special cargo.

On the other hand, as commercial representatives, the company handles the selling of freights, reservation of spaces, administration of the container inventory, issuance of embarkation documents, among other activities that may be required. Our team is specialized in customer service and is supported by a strong technological platform.

It is worth noting that AGUNSA is a Chilean company that was created in 1960 as shipping agents, but then expanded its services to ports, airports, logistics and transport matters, covering America, Europe and Asia.
